Top 5 Spring Style Trends
I have always been a sucker for pretty clothes, but I never liked spending tons of money on ‘the latest’ trends or buying clothes that only last a year. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe: selecting foundation pieces in neutral (black is my personal favorite) that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits. Create a capsule wardrobe with a pair of pants, a skirt, a great fitting pair of jeans, sweater, jacket and a couple solid color tops and the base of your capsule wardrobe is complete. Add in a few seasonal pieces, shoes and accessories and you’re set. To help you choose some pieces that will last beyond this spring, here are five of my favorite spring 2018 style trends with a ‘for real’ twist!
#5 - Florals!
There is something wonderful about spring blooms. This year, they are showing up everywhere: on shoes, bags, tops, dresses… Choose a top with a pretty floral in a simple to wear under your neutral sweater or jacket this spring, then alone with a skirt and belt in the summer. I love this beautiful one from Anthropologie for adding a fun punch of color. The embroidery makes it extra special!
#4 - Plaid!
This year, plaid has come out from the cedar chest to become one of the hottest fashion week spring 2018 trends. Across the runways, plaid ran the gamut from neutral shades to brilliant colors like ultra violet and mustard and in styles from classic Watch plaid to buffalo check and gingham. Make geometry your friend for a few years by choosing a plaid in neutral shades or as an accessory like this amazing leather and fabric clutch from House of Pillows on Etsy.
#3 – Pink Lavender!
When Pantone released their 2018 fashion color palette and announced Ultra Violet as the color of the year, I personally jumped for joy because I love bold colors. However, like the 80s, brights like Ultra Violet only tend to last a season or two and they fall out of fashion. A softer color like Pink Lavender is a better bet to last as a pretty pop of spring color for your wardrobe. This pretty tee from Sundance Catalog has just the right amount of lace to dress up under a basic jacket or wear with a pretty skirt (or yoga pants in my case) for a casual look.
#2 – Fringe!
Fringe has continued to hold a prominent place in fashion trends for 2018. On tops, shoes, purses and jewelry, we’re being encouraged to embrace our inner Bohemian in a big way! Most days, I wear a comfortable pair of New Balance sneakers, but these adorable peep toe bootie sandals by Vince Camuto caught my eye as a good alternative for date night and Sunday afternoons. They are a fun way to sport a little bit of fringe with a style that is artsy enough to last past 2018.
#1 – Anoraks!
As someone who looks for functional clothing that does double duty as something pretty to wear, I was over the moon happy when seeing Anorak jackets on the runways. I’ve had a couple in my closet for years and wear them regardless of what is ‘in’ because they are just smart pieces. This one from Duluth Trading Company is my personal favorite and one I take with me on trips, wear for runs to town and walking Millie in the park. It survives the toughest abuse and washes up like new
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post with some fresh ideas for mixing in some trends from women’s spring fashion 2018 into your wardrobe. I’d love to hear some of your tips for extending seasonal wearing options and taking advantage of trends for more than the current year.
Have a happy spring,
